Sometimes we fail to realize that our privileges are something to be taken for granted but used to help others in need. We watch the new seen atrocities around the world, but what good does it do to be a bystander? Sometimes it feels that there are so many fires surrounding us that we don't know where to start, but that doesn't mean we give up. So I decided to help a cause that is personal to me: helping foster youth that age out of the system.


The organization's name is called helping hands, which will provide tools to help children transition into adulthood and give them routines to propose in life that these people arent provided as being apart of the system. Also, the trauma these children take to do through affects their lives and future. So when they age out of the system, it becomes difficult for them to accumulate to adulthood. More than 23,000 kids are out of foster care every year, and about 1 out of 50 students from foster care won't get a G.E.D. Foster adolescents who are transitioning into adulthood should be empowered and supported by giving them the opportunity, and mentorship they need to succeed in life, which the organization aims to do.


The organization offers these services:

Education: this will offer a college pre-program that comes with tutoring to support the academic success of foster adolescents. To assist them in covering the cost of attending college or a trade school, we will also offer scholarships and financial aid.


Employment: To assist adolescents leaving foster care find fulfilling work, we will offer job training, career counseling, job placement services, and job-shadowing possibilities.


Emotional Support: This offers support services to help youth in foster care deal with the difficulties of transitioning to becoming independent adults. We'll provide peer support groups and counseling services.


Mentorship program: mentorship program that will connect these young people with other individuals to assist them in transitioning into adulthood and finding a passion in life that will allow them to create a life of stability. Mentors will be those that have been a part of the foster system or work with foster youth, so they understand the experiences these people have gone through.
The organization would benefit significantly from Anima Mundi Development Partners' support as we aim to help the future generation and assist those that have fewer opportunities than other children that don't enter the foster system. Around 70% of foster youth want to go to college, but only 3% who age will get a college degree. Even 60% of boys who age out have been convicted of a crime and 7 in 10 girls will become pregnant at 21. The organization will give them a chance to escape these probabilities and the opportunity to create a stable life for themselves.
